Valeria, about to turn 18, confronts her godfather Joaquín to allow her to train as a professional motorcycle racer, with Hugo's support.

Valeria is no longer a child. With just months to go before she turns 18, she has decided to stand up to her godfather, Joaquín, to pursue her passion: motorcycles. Accompanied by Hugo, she approached him to ask for permission to start training as a professional racer, but the answer was a resounding no.

The dream of racing clashes with Joaquín's protection

“I want to train, godfather. I know you don’t see me as a professional racer, but you know I’ve loved motorcycles since I was a child,” Valeria shot back. However, Joaquín remained firm: “No.” For him, the decision is not a punishment, but a way to protect her. He recalled the incident where Valeria impersonated Hugo in a race, violating the rules and putting at risk everything they had built.

“I’ve seen you fall off a motorcycle. I’ve seen you put yourself in danger. This sport doesn’t forgive mistakes,” Joaquín argued. But Valeria did not give up. “It was a mistake. I got on that motorcycle because it’s in my blood. While you all decide if I’m worthy or not, my heart is shattered from waiting,” she replied.

Hugo offers to coach to ensure safety

Hugo, who was with Valeria, intervened to mediate. “With the proper control, without improvising anything. Here, with all the safety measures,” he proposed, offering to be her coach. He assured that he wouldn’t let Valeria take unnecessary risks and that he would guide her step by step. He even revealed that he had already privately rejected Valeria’s request, but that they were now coming together to do things right.

But Joaquín did not relent. “As long as you are a minor and under my guardianship, you will respect my decisions,” he stated. Valeria, visibly hurt, reproached him: “Do you know what hurts me the most? That it’s you who cuts my wings. You, who always made me feel like I could achieve anything I set my mind to.”

Valeria's determination: she will race with or without permission

The young woman made it clear that her decision is firm. “I’m no longer a child, Joaquín. There are months left until I turn 18. And as soon as I do, I’m going to race, with or without your permission,” she warned. For her, motorcycles are not a whim: “This is my passion. It’s my vocation. It’s my life.” Before leaving, she threw one last jab: “Sometimes not supporting someone is also a way to lose, Joaquín.”

The discussion reflects the conflict between a guardian's protection and a young woman's desire for independence, who sees her future in motorcycling. Valeria is determined to prove that she can be a professional racer, and Hugo's support could be key to achieving that. It remains to be seen if Joaquín will change his mind before Valeria reaches adulthood and takes control of her life.
