The Fishing Subcommittee of the Almafuerte Institute of Copetonas has confirmed the 2026 edition of the Reta Fishing Contest for November 15, with a prize pool exceeding 400 million pesos and including five 0KM trucks.
The traditional Reta Fishing Contest, organised by the Fishing Subcommittee of the Almafuerte Secondary Institute of Copetonas, will celebrate its next edition on November 15 with a record prize pool of over 400 million pesos and the awarding of five 0KM trucks.
The prize grid, considered one of the most important in the history of coastal contests, includes a first place winner who will receive a 4x4 truck, a second place winner with a 4x2 truck, and a special prize for the heaviest catch, also a 4x2 truck. Additionally, another 4x2 truck will be raffled among all participants, and there will be an extra special prize of a 0KM unit.
The organisation has detailed that the registration of all vehicles will be covered by the organising committee, providing an extra incentive for the winners.
Cash prizes will extend up to 40th place, and special categories have been established for Variada, Ladies, and Cadets, broadening recognition opportunities for different profiles of fishermen.
Impact on Copetonas and the Almafuerte Institute
Beyond the sporting appeal, the contest has a profound social impact on the town of Copetonas, which has just over 1,200 inhabitants. During the competition weekend, the population doubles, generating crucial economic activity for local businesses and tourism providers in the area.
Funds raised in each edition allow for infrastructure works at the Almafuerte Institute. In previous years, improvements such as the installation of central heating, electrical upgrades, and building enhancements have been financed, making the contest a development engine for the educational community.
Registrations and fishing area
The general registration fee is $200,000, while for the Ladies and Cadets categories it is $190,000. To facilitate participation, payments can be made via bank transfer, debit card, or in three interest-free instalments.
The fishing area will cover a wide coastal sector: from the vicinity of the Sunken Ship to the east up to The Jump of Cristian, and to the west from the fishermen's descent towards Marisol to the vicinity of the mouth of the Quequén Salado River. This expanse ensures ample space for the hundreds of participants expected.
