The President of the Government has chaired a video conference meeting to coordinate the situation in Ceuta, with the participation of several ministers. The Executive has requested extraordinary appearances in Congress to report on the management.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, chaired a coordination meeting via video conference on Friday to address the current situation in Ceuta, amid a migration crisis. The meeting included the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles; the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres; the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz; the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego; and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Diego Martínez.
During the meeting, the president and the ministers assessed the situation in the autonomous city to review ongoing efforts and implement new measures to assist the migrants still in Ceuta. The aim is to strengthen the guarantees of security and well-being for the people of Ceuta and for the city to return to full normality as soon as possible.
The Government has emphasised that it will continue to use all the levers and resources of the State that are necessary to ensure that return to normality. This meeting takes place in a context of migratory pressure at the border, which has led the Executive to activate a coordinated response mechanism.
On the other hand, the Executive has requested this same Friday the appearance in the Congress of Deputies, at its own request and during an extraordinary period, of the Ministers of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares; Defence, Margarita Robles; and the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños. They will appear before the committees on Interior, Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security to account for their management.
These appearances aim to provide detailed explanations about the management of the migration crisis and the measures adopted. For citizens, it represents parliamentary oversight of a situation that directly affects security and coexistence in Ceuta, as well as the country's migration policy.
The coordination meeting highlights the priority that the Government gives to resolving this crisis. New concrete measures to assist migrants and strengthen security in the area are expected to be announced in the coming days.
