Hacienda appoints Antonio Ansón as new director of the Tax Agency to resolve the crisis

Antonio Ansón, a tax inspector since 1999 and with 36 years of experience in the AEAT, will take over as the general director of the Tax Agency. The appointment aims to put an end to the crisis that arose following Soledad Fernández's resignation.

Antonio Ansón Latorre will be the new general director of the Tax Agency (AEAT). The Council of Ministers will approve his appointment this Tuesday, which will be published on Wednesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE). With this move, Hacienda aims to close the internal crisis that erupted after Soledad Fernández's resignation on July 1.

Ansón, born in Zaragoza in 1962, joined the AEAT as a tax technician in 1988. He has been a state tax inspector since 1999. His career includes responsible positions such as deputy general director of Planning and Programming (2007), head of Human Resources (2010), and deputy director of the Human Resources department (2024). He has also been head of studies at the School of Public Finance of the Institute of Fiscal Studies.

Fernández's departure was motivated by internal discontent within the Agency, a lack of initiative in judicial investigations into corruption, and the controversy over the transfer of tax powers to Catalonia. The Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, downplayed the resignation, describing it as
