The DGI confirmed that taxpayers who submitted their tax return before July 15 will receive their 2026 IRPF refund starting from July 28. Those who do so afterwards will receive payment in August.

The General Tax Directorate (DGI) has set July 28 as the payment date for the 2026 IRPF credit for those taxpayers who filed their tax return before July 15. This refund corresponds to the 2025 fiscal year and will be paid to those with a credit balance.

Deadlines and conditions for receiving the refund

The collecting agency detailed that the payment will be made through banks or authorized collection networks. Taxpayers who file their tax return after July 15 will have to wait until August to receive their refund.

The final deadline for submitting the 2026 IRPF tax return is August 31. The DGI warns that those who fail to meet this deadline may face financial penalties.

To find out if a refund is pending, the DGI recommends checking the status through its online service “refund inquiry”, accessible with digital identity. It can also be done via WhatsApp at 098134400 or through the official DGI app.

How to file the tax return step by step

The DGI has published a guide on its website with the steps to follow to file the 2026 IRPF tax return. The first step is to log into the system with digital identity from the website or the app.

Once inside, the taxpayer must review the preloaded data. The first line of the form indicates whether there is a balance to pay or a credit to collect. If everything is correct, the return can be confirmed.

If a balance to pay arises, payment slips can be generated at that moment. Conversely, if there is a refund, the DGI will review the data and notify the taxpayer via SMS to the registered mobile number.

The DGI has also shared a tutorial video to facilitate the online filing process, available on its official channel.

What to do if the tax return has not been filed

Taxpayers who have not yet submitted their tax return must do so before August 31 to avoid penalties. The DGI reminds that the process is free and can be done from any device with internet access.

For those who have questions about their tax situation, the DGI offers support channels such as online chat and a consultation phone line. It is recommended to carefully review the preloaded data to avoid errors that could delay the refund.

In summary, if you filed your return before July 15, you will be able to collect your 2026 IRPF credit starting from July 28. If you have not done so yet, you still have time, but your payment will arrive in August. The key is to review the deadlines and use the DGI's digital tools to expedite the process.
