The 'Fórmula Lanín' competition invites 160 students from technical schools in Neuquén to design and build electric cars. Registrations are open until July 31.

The Neuquén Ministry of Education launched the 'Fórmula Lanín' competition on Monday, a pedagogical challenge inviting students from technical schools to fully construct an electric car. The initiative, framed within the Eco Challenge programme of the YPF Foundation, anticipates the participation of 160 students organised into 32 mixed groups, who will compete on street circuits in four locations across the province.

Registration open until July 31 for mixed teams

Those interested in participating must register before July 31 via an online form. Each team, consisting of up to 10 members, must be mixed and have the support of a teacher. The proposal is aimed at students from the inter-cycle and oriented cycle of the Provincial Technical Education Schools (EPET) and EPEAS.

During the presentation event, the Minister of Education, Soledad Martínez, highlighted that all technical schools will receive a kit to develop their prototype. “With this proposal, all technical schools will receive their kit, all will be able to develop their prototype, and they will have the opportunity to participate in a local instance not only in the province but also in the regions,” she stated.

Strategic allies: YPF, CALF, Pan American Energy and Nippon Car

The initiative is supported by the YPF Foundation, the cooperative CALF, Pan American Energy (PAE) and Nippon Car. These allies provide key resources: CALF and Nippon Car donate the construction kits, and the winning school will receive a solar photovoltaic generation kit to promote renewable energies. PAE, for its part, donates safety kits for the participants.

Florencia Quiroga from CALF explained that the cooperative is involved in donating the kits and providing the solar system. From Nippon Car, Malen Reta noted that “electric mobility is here to stay.” Angélica Giacchetta from PAE indicated that the company supports the initiative by donating protective equipment.

A project integrating physics, electronics and environmental awareness

Participants will need to apply knowledge of Physics, Electronics, Mechanics, Programming and technological systems to build a real prototype of zero-emission sustainable mobility. The competition evaluates not only the design and construction but also soft skills such as teamwork and problem-solving.

The Undersecretary of Educational Technology and Modernisation, Lucas Godoy, emphasised that the project aims to “provide them with a participation instance where they can not only develop the car but also all the capacities related to soft skills within the teams of each school.” Once registration closes, the organisation will contact each school to coordinate the sending of pedagogical guidelines, technical regulations and training schedules.

For Neuquén students interested in technology and sustainable mobility, this is a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real project. The competition will take place on street circuits in four locations across the province, with dates yet to be confirmed. The deadline for registration is July 31, and the form is available on the Ministry of Education's website.
