Valencia challenges the PAN: "If we don't go together, you will lose" in the Michoacán governorship

The state leader of the PRI, Guillermo Valencia, responded to the PAN for their refusal to yield candidacies in municipalities governed by the blue and white party. He assured that arrogance could cost them the governorship in 2027.

The race for the governorship of Michoacán ahead of 2027 is intensifying. The state leader of the PRI, Guillermo Valencia Reyes, responded this Tuesday to his counterpart from the PAN, Carlos Quintana Martínez, who warned that in a potential coalition they would not yield candidacies in the municipalities governed by the blue and white party. Valencia was blunt: "Arrogance can lead to defeat."

Valencia's warning: polls and arithmetic

In statements to the media, Valencia asserted that Morena holds the governorship and that neither the PRI nor the PAN can afford to go separately. "I have seen several polls where if we don't go together, you won't win," he claimed, referring to electoral results showing Morena as the favourite.

The PRI member questioned the PAN's stance on Morelia: "Morelia is not theirs, they speak with arrogance. The governorship is not held by the PAN nor the PRI, it is held by Morena. We need to be very clear about this… Their arrogance could lead us to lose. It’s a matter of logic, doing the math, arithmetic, and common sense," he expressed.

Valencia insisted that the PRI has competitive candidates and cited federal deputy David Cortés as an example, who, he said, "is a federal deputy thanks to the votes of the PRI. If we hadn't gone together at the federal level, he wouldn't be a deputy. And he hasn't come to thank us even once."

Dialogue with conditions and own polls

The local deputy also stated that he is open to dialogue, but with clear conditions, and called for humility from the PAN. "I am eager and willing to reach agreements, but there needs to be concessions, and it’s not about conceding just for the sake of it," he said. Regarding a possible breakup, Valencia pointed out that "if the coalition is not achieved, it’s not their fault".

To reinforce his position, the PRI will conduct its own polls in Morelia and at the state level to determine the best profiles. "The polls speak for themselves to make the best decision," Valencia concluded.

The electoral landscape in Michoacán is uncertain. The PRI-PAN-PRD coalition worked in 2021 to win the governorship, but now negotiations are complicated by local interests. For readers interested in Michoacán politics, this dispute defines whether the opposition can confront Morena in 2027 or if division will pave the way for the ruling party.

The next key date will be the presentation of the PRI's internal polls, expected in the coming weeks. Whether dialogue progresses or breaks down will depend on these polls.
