The Venezuelan Chamber of Electronic Commerce (Cavecom) will deliver digital sales equipment to businesses affected by the earthquakes as part of a technological contingency plan.

The president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Electronic Commerce (Cavecom), Richard Ujueta, announced a technological contingency plan to reactivate businesses affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. During an interview on Venezolana de Televisión, the spokesperson detailed that they will provide online sales tools and connectivity to accelerate economic recovery in the hardest-hit areas.

From the first day of the emergency, Cavecom coordinated with the main telecommunications providers in the country, achieving that companies released communication channels and lifted restrictions on accounts suspended due to non-payment.

Commercial Census in Critical Areas

Ujueta warned about the seriousness of the situation on the central coast, where the seismic movements destroyed most of the local productive apparatus.

“In the coastal area of La Guaira, more than 70% of the base commerce has disappeared,” he warned.

To mitigate this impact, the chamber and the Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology (Fundacite) will carry out an in-person census this week. The goal is to diagnose material damages and install digital infrastructure in the technological park of La Guaira to temporarily house merchants who lost their physical premises.

Through the Digital Kit Venezuela program, Cavecom will provide the affected with inventory systems, billing, point of sale, and logistics at no initial cost. This program includes a grant of over 40% and financing facilities that represent a direct saving of between three thousand and four thousand dollars per entrepreneur. A similar strategy of census and installation will be developed in the state of Aragua in conjunction with the Girardot Mayor's Office.

Platforms for Shelters and Psychosocial Support

Cavecom's technological contribution also encompasses the social area. During the first three days following the earthquakes, the chamber designed and deployed an electronic platform that the authorities of Aragua currently use for shelter management, resource allocation, and evaluation through a “real-time infrastructure traffic light”.

Additionally, this Monday, a partnership will begin with the College of Psychologists of the Capital District to activate a telemedicine call center. A contingent of 50 professionals will provide remote care from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., complemented by an in-person deployment coordinated with the authorities in La Guaira and Aragua.

Expectations Regarding the New Economic Cabinet

Regarding the recent appointments made by the President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, the expert indicated that the private sector receives the changes with optimism. He particularly highlighted the appointment of Anabel Pereira in the sectoral vice-presidency that groups the economic area, a decision that Cavecom interprets as a recognition by the State of the sustained growth of the digital economy. The chamber actively participates in drafting bills on electronic commerce, artificial intelligence, data protection, and cybersecurity.

Finally, Ujueta recalled the benefits of moving towards electronic invoicing —proposed by the chamber since 1998— to combat smuggling and optimize the real-time tax collection of Seniat. The spokesperson offered Cavecom's mediation to seek consensus and tax incentives that allow the gradual incorporation of the more than three million informal merchants operating in the country into digital formality.
