Kia launches the EV2 in Colombia, its new entry-level electric vehicle, priced at 89,990,000 pesos and with a range of 312 km. The model directly competes with the Chevrolet Spark EUV and the Renault Kwid E Tech.

Kia has introduced its new entry-level electric vehicle, the Kia EV2, to the Colombian market, with a starting price of 89,990,000 pesos for the Air version. The homologated range under the WLTP cycle reaches 312 kilometres, a figure that places it ahead of its direct rivals in the urban electric segment.

The launch comes at a time of growing interest in electric mobility in Colombia, where buyers are increasingly comparing prices and features. Compared to the Chevrolet Spark EUV, which costs 86,690,000 pesos, and the Renault Kwid E Tech, starting at 72,990,000 pesos, the EV2 is the most expensive of the three, but it also offers greater range and a more comprehensive equipment package.

42.2 kWh battery and fast charging in 30 minutes

The Kia EV2 features a 42.2 kWh battery that powers a 142 horsepower motor with 250 Nm of torque. According to the technical specifications, these features allow it to perform well both in the city and on the highway. The fast charging in direct current supports up to 350 kW, enabling recovery from 10% to 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes, a key detail for those who use the car daily.

The i Pedal regenerative braking system recovers energy while driving without the need to press the brake, extending the range on urban trips. Additionally, the EV2 includes a semi-autonomous driving assistance package (ADAS) and seven airbags as standard, a safety feature that surpasses many rivals in the segment.

Thoughtful design and surprising interior details

In terms of aesthetics, the EV2 features clean lines with flush-type handles integrated into the body to improve aerodynamics. The headlights are full LED with DRL daytime running lights. A curious detail: the interior door handle is engraved with the message 'Have a nice day', a nod that Kia describes as unexpected.

The interior boasts a 30-inch screen that integrates instrumentation and the infotainment system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. It also includes a wireless charger for mobile devices. The E Shift gear lever is located on the steering column, freeing up space in the centre console and giving a sense of greater spaciousness.

The dimensions of the Kia EV2 are 4,060 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,575 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,565 mm and a ground clearance of 146 mm. The boot offers 362 litres of capacity, sufficient for daily use. The wheels are 16 inches with 205/65 tyres and aluminium rims. Instead of a spare wheel, it includes a temporary mobility kit (TMK), an increasingly common solution to reduce weight and gain space.

Seven-year warranty to reassure buyers

Kia backs the EV2 with a seven-year warranty, a period aimed at instilling confidence in those still hesitant to switch to electric cars. The brand hopes that this coverage, along with the range and equipment, will convince Colombian drivers who are comparing prices between the Spark EUV and the Kwid E Tech.

For buyers interested in an urban electric vehicle, the EV2 represents a more expensive option but with more range and technology. Those prioritising the initial price will find cheaper alternatives, albeit with fewer features. The decision will depend on whether the user values the entry cost more or the long-term range and equipment.
