The Instituto Tecnológico de Sonora (ITSON) reinforces its commitment to entrepreneurship among its students with specific courses and a business incubator that offers mentorship and guidance to turn ideas into businesses.

The Instituto Tecnológico de Sonora (ITSON) has launched a comprehensive strategy to promote entrepreneurship among its students, aiming for university students to generate their own job opportunities in the region. The initiative includes courses focused on business creation, a business incubator, and the support of mentors.

An Incubator to Turn Ideas into Businesses

Jesús Héctor Hernández López, rector of ITSON, explained that the institution seeks to equip students with the necessary tools to launch their ideas, regardless of their field of study. “Many times, entrepreneurship, whether it’s a Bachelor of Administration, Bachelor of Economics, or an Engineer, can generate their own job opportunities,” he noted.

To this end, ITSON has the Business Incubator, a space where students receive guidance to refine their projects and access mentorship from experts. Additionally, the curricula include specific courses on entrepreneurship, allowing students to acquire practical skills from the classroom.

High Employability in In-Demand Careers

The rector highlighted that, in addition to entrepreneurship, ITSON graduates achieve good integration into the job market, especially in high-demand fields such as Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Software Engineering, and Psychology. “They have settled in very well, for example, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, we are just about to have the first generation, Software Engineering, they also adapt very quickly,” Hernández López affirmed.

This dual approach—entrepreneurship and employability—allows students to have alternatives upon completing their studies, whether by creating their own business or joining existing companies. The institution believes that both options are complementary and contribute to the economic development of the region.

Entrepreneurship as a Driver of Regional Development

For ITSON, entrepreneurship not only benefits the individual student but also generates a positive impact on the environment. By creating their own businesses, graduates can generate jobs and contribute to the local economy. “We seek for students to not only secure a place in the job market but also to create conditions, ventures, and launch their business ideas to self-employ and create jobs in the future,” added the rector.

The initiative is part of a growing trend in Mexican universities to incorporate entrepreneurship as part of academic training. In a context of economic uncertainty, having tools to create one’s own business has become a competitive advantage for young people.

Those interested in accessing the services of the incubator can visit the ITSON facilities or check the institution's website to learn about the requirements and opening hours.
