The Civil Guard and Customs Surveillance have arrested 10 people and seized 673 marijuana plants in an operation against illegal cultivation in Padul and Cónchar-Villamena (Granada).

The Civil Guard and Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency have arrested 10 people aged between 32 and 62 in a joint anti-drug operation carried out in the Granada municipalities of Padul and Cónchar-Villamena. During the searches, 673 marijuana plants in various stages of flowering were seized.

Operation 'EBGB Descom' against illegal cultivation

The investigation, named operation 'EBGB Descom', was initiated by the Civil Guard of Las Gabias after receiving numerous complaints from residents about the strong smell of marijuana in several streets of both municipalities. The agents confirmed the existence of five homes with illegal connections to the electricity supply and four with marijuana plantations.

In the searches, members of the Civil Guard and Customs Surveillance participated, supported by the Local Police of Padul and technicians from the electricity company. Nine entries were made into homes, where fraudulent connections to the electrical network were verified.

Crimes and judicial proceedings

Four of the detainees were arrested for crimes of marijuana cultivation and electricity fraud, two solely for cultivation, and four only for electricity fraud. All have been placed at the disposal of the judiciary after the searches concluded.

The seized plantations were located in four homes, three of which were also illegally connected to the electrical network. In total, 673 plants in different stages of growth were seized.

For the residents of the area, this operation represents relief from the disturbances caused by the smell and illegal activity. Authorities remind that electricity fraud carries prison sentences and fines, and that any suspicion can be reported anonymously.

The investigation remains open, and further arrests related to this illegal cultivation network in the Vega de Granada region are not ruled out.
