The Association of Carpet Makers of Corpus Christi in Ponteareas will create a 60-square-metre carpet for the Cristo de la Victoria procession in Vigo. The work, which will use 1,400 carnations and other natural elements, will be carried out by around thirty artisans.

Around thirty carpet makers from Ponteareas will travel to Vigo to create a 60-square-metre floral carpet for the Cristo de la Victoria procession, one of the most popular religious events in the city. The work, designed by Miguel Ángel García Correa, will be made entirely from flowers and natural materials.

The carpet will cover an area of 60 square metres and its design is inspired by the traditional compositions of Corpus Christi in Ponteareas. It will use 700 white carnations, 700 fuchsia pink carnations, blue hydrangea, dried orange marigold flowers, green tuya, black heather, bud leaves, dehydrated pine bark, and green eucalyptus, among other plant elements.

The Association of Carpet Makers of Corpus Christi in Ponteareas has been invited by the Vigo City Council and the Brotherhood of Cristo de la Victoria to create this ephemeral work of art. This collaboration is repeated once again, strengthening the bond between both towns.

From the association, they expressed their gratitude to the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero; to councillor Ángel Rivas; and to the Brotherhood of Cristo de la Victoria, especially to its president and all its members, for the trust placed in them. The floral offering has a particularly emotional dimension, as it is inspired by the devotion that Marcial García, father of the association's president, instilled in his son for the Cristo de la Victoria.

This participation in Vigo comes after a year of great international projection for the carpet makers of Ponteareas. In 2026, they created floral carpets for the Corpus Christi procession in Madrid, presided over by the Pope, a historic event broadcast to millions of people worldwide. That milestone projected a unique tradition in Galicia internationally.

Ponteareas, in the south of the province of Pontevedra, is internationally recognized for its celebration of Corpus Christi, a festival declared of International Tourist Interest and a Good of Cultural Interest. For over two hundred years, its residents have created spectacular carpets of natural flowers for the procession of the Blessed Sacrament, a tradition maintained from generation to generation.

The Association of Carpet Makers of Corpus Christi in Ponteareas continues to spread this tradition both within and beyond our borders, bringing the name of Ponteareas and Galicia to some of the main religious and cultural stages. The carpet for the Cristo de la Victoria is a new demonstration of the artistic excellence of a group that has made floral tradition a hallmark recognized both inside and outside Galicia.

The procession of Cristo de la Victoria is one of the most deeply rooted religious events in Vigo, and the floral carpet from Ponteareas has become a prominent feature of it. Attendees will be able to admire the ephemeral work during the procession route, which gathers thousands of faithful each year.
