The Tourism Department has presented a schedule with more than ten free excursions for the winter holidays. Activities include visits to towns, beaches, and historical circuits.
The local Tourism Department has launched a winter holiday agenda with over a dozen free outings ranging from beaches to historical circuits. The head of the area, Carolina Goicoechea, detailed the proposals aimed at revitalising a tourism sector facing economic difficulties.
Free outings to towns and beaches
The programme kicks off on 21st July with a visit to San Mayol, which includes free transport from San Martín square. Participants will be able to explore the Sacred Heart of Jesus church, the museum, the library, and the Rincón Catalán, coordinated by the local company La Peña.
On Saturday 25th, the excursion heads to Orense, where a visit to the spa is combined with birdwatching and wildlife observation at Médano 40. After lunch at El Reencuentro, the group will take a guided tour of the town with local representative Carmen Quiroga. This activity is also free.
On Sunday 26th, the Empanada Festival in Reta will take place, with departure at 11 am. Attendees can enjoy food stalls, artistic performances, a craft and entrepreneur fair, and visit the local museum and photo archive.
Second week with more proposals
The second part of the agenda begins on Tuesday 28th with an outing to San Francisco de Bellocq and Claromecó. Free transport from San Martín square takes visitors to Claromecó, where they have free time for lunch. They will then head to San Francisco de Bellocq for a guided visit and a snack at the Echegoyen Recreational Club.
On Thursday 23rd, the circuit “The Seed of Industry” will take place, framed within the Wheat Route, a free tour of places linked to the history of wheat in the city.
On Friday 24th and Wednesday 29th, an exclusive activity has been organised for families from the Boca, Colegiales, and Ruta 3 Sur neighbourhoods. Residents will be picked up by municipal vans from local health centres to participate in a treasure hunt in San Martín square, followed by a visit to the Cultural Centre La Estación or the Mulazzi Museum, under the name “Between Treasures and Giants”.
On Thursday 30th, there will be an outing to Copetonas and Cascallares, with free transport and guided visits exploring the history of each locality, including participation from entrepreneurs for the snack and showcasing local productions.
To conclude, on Friday 31st, a visit to San Martín square will be proposed from a different perspective, with participation from Coca and Bonjour discussing urban philosophy. The idea is to explore this iconic space “with different eyes,” as explained by Goicoechea.
A sector hit hard by the economic situation
Goicoechea acknowledged that expectations are not the best: “what is sun and beach tourism or coastal destinations, in low season, is difficult.” The director pointed out that the general economic situation affects tourist movement, not only in its destinations but throughout the Buenos Aires coast.
To address this reality, the Tourism Department has implemented a weekly agenda aimed at showcasing the real proposals of each destination, with the goal of attracting potential tourists. “We want to disseminate what is actually available: outings, activities, which shops are open,” she concluded.
