The representative of Somos México, Marco Antonio Baños, accepted this Thursday Morena's demand for the National Electoral Institute (INE) to audit the finances of their party and determine if there are resources from the so-called "huachicol" fiscal that former Baja California governor Ernesto Ruffo Appel, now a member of the group, is accused of.
During the session of the INE General Council, Baños Martínez challenged Morena to submit to the same scrutiny and for the accounts of the other political parties to be audited as well. "We make a specific proposal: we do not want cases of political prisoners like that of Governor Ruffo Appel to be repeated," he stated.
"Do you want us to review the finances? Let's review the finances of absolutely everyone, publicly, let’s submit to public scrutiny," declared Baños, who described Ruffo as a political prisoner.
Baños argued that Morena has already engaged in early campaign activities, mentioning the cases of senators Andrea Chávez in Chihuahua and Cecilia Guadiana in Coahuila, who promoted their image through mobile medical units. "What is not being reviewed, and that is a fact, is all the money; we do not know the origin of the money circulating in the early processes that the parties have today," he pointed out.
Morena's representative, Guillermo Santiago, responded to Baños and insisted on emphasizing the party's relationship with Ruffo Appel. "It is important and interesting how the first political banner of Somos is the defense of a 'huachicolero' criminal," he stated. Santiago added that there is "an impressive number of characters in the advisory council of Somos México who are known for being racist, classist, and corrupt."
Ernesto Ruffo Appel was linked to the process this Thursday, along with seven other people, after an extensive hearing for crimes related to fuel trafficking. The case has generated intense political debate and has brought the scrutiny of party resources to the forefront.
