The State Public Education Secretariat (SEPE-USET) has intensified measures to prevent and address school violence in Tlaxcala, with a specialised unit and coordinated work with other agencies.
The State Public Education Secretariat (SEPE-USET) has launched a reinforcement of its actions to prevent and address school violence in Tlaxcala schools. The strategy, which is permanent in nature, aims to ensure safe spaces for girls, boys, and adolescents through the application of protocols and collaboration with various government bodies.
Sergio Enrique Reséndiz Flores, director of Basic Education at SEPE, reported that the agency has a Gender Equity and Culture of Peace Unit, headed by Carmen Meneses Juárez. This area is responsible for receiving and following up on reports related to school violence, harassment, bullying, and any behaviour that threatens the integrity of the student community.
Reséndiz Flores explained that the educational system has the responsibility to guide school leaders, teachers, and staff to comply with current regulations. Furthermore, respect, discipline, and healthy coexistence are promoted. He emphasised that, although education begins at home, schools play a fundamental role in the comprehensive development of students.
The handling of these cases does not solely fall on SEPE. There are various government agencies that have specialised programmes to intervene when situations of school violence arise. Therefore, actions are developed in a coordinated manner, as detailed by the director.
During the sessions of the Technical School Councils, strategies to prevent violence, strengthen the culture of peace, and promote environments that favour the personal and academic development of students are constantly addressed. These periodic meetings are a key space for planning and following up on measures.
Regarding the most frequent incidents, the agency noted that reports of alleged cases of bullying, harassment, and conflicts among members of the educational community predominate. Each report is channelled according to institutional procedures, with the participation of directors, supervisors, sector heads, and the relevant authorities.
SEPE reiterated that it will continue to strengthen prevention and response actions, in compliance with the directives of the State Government. The goal is for schools in Tlaxcala to remain safe spaces where the well-being, protection, and rights of girls, boys, and adolescents are prioritised.
For parents and guardians, SEPE reminds them that they can go to the Gender Equity and Culture of Peace Unit to report any incident. The unit guarantees confidentiality and proper follow-up of each case, within the framework of current legal regulations.
Educational authorities have called on the school community to collaborate in the early detection of risk situations. Prevention and timely reporting are essential tools for maintaining a violence-free educational environment.
