Deportivo Maipú drew 0-0 at home against San Martín de Tucumán in a balanced match. The Mendoza team earned a point that keeps them within the playoff qualification zone.
Deportivo Maipú and San Martín de Tucumán ended in a 0-0 draw at the Fortaleza Cruzada in a match corresponding to the tournament date. The home side was superior in the second half but could not break the resistance of the visiting goalkeeper Manganelli.
The match began with both teams measuring up in an even contest. Enzo Pérez, making his debut for Maipú, was booked in the first half. The Tucumán side had some chances but lacked clarity.
Maipú improved in the second half
In the second half, the team led by Juan Manuel Sara showed a different face. They created several dangerous opportunities, especially through crosses and shots from outside the box. Goalkeeper Manganelli became the star by saving a shot from Faggioli.
The clearest chance came in the 89th minute. A shot from Faggioli grazed Manganelli and the ball hit the crossbar, bouncing out. Maipú appealed for a goal, but referee Carlos Córdoba did not validate it.
It was the clearest and last chance for Maipú, who had to settle for sharing the points, having deserved more than their rival.
With this draw, Deportivo Maipú has 29 points and remains in seventh place in the group, still within the qualification zone. San Martín de Tucumán, with 30 points, is one place above.
Current group standings
The current positions (with some teams yet to play this round) are: Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy 38 points, Atlanta 36, Tristán Suárez 33, Temperley 31, Midland and San Martín de Tucumán 30, Deportivo Maipú 29, Atlético de Rafaela 27.
For Maipú fans, the good news is that the team is still in the fight for promotion. In the next round, the Mendoza side will visit Gimnasia y Tiro in Salta, a direct clash for the top spots.
The draw feels insufficient given their performance in the second half, but it adds to the fight. The team will need to improve their aim in front of goal to avoid depending on other results in the coming matches.
