The Aranjuez City Council has managed aid of €8.37 million to rehabilitate 353 homes and 71 premises in the Historic Centre, mobilising a private investment of €20.7 million.
The Aranjuez City Council has channeled to date €8,374,290.05 in grants from the Neighborhood Rehabilitation Aid Programme (ERRP), aimed at 353 homes and 71 commercial premises in the Historic Centre. These grants, funded by Next Generation European funds, will mobilise a private investment of €20,760,895.46 for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the buildings.
The programme, framed within an agreement between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, the Community of Madrid, and the Aranjuez City Council, has just extended its execution deadline to 2028. This extension will allow owners and community members more time to carry out the subsidised works, as reported by the council.
The actions focus on the areas of the Historic Centre, while the Barraca de Federico García Lorca and Glorieta del Clavel areas, also initially included, have not recorded any aid applications. The subsidised works improve thermal insulation, renew installations, reduce energy consumption, and increase the accessibility of the properties.
The Councillor for Urbanism and Housing, Ignacio Díaz, has described the programme as “one of the largest residential rehabilitation projects developed in Aranjuez.” In his statements, recorded by the City Council, he emphasised that “we are not only helping hundreds of families improve their homes with European funding, but the significant volume of investment that will be executed will also promote new actions to improve public space.”
Díaz also positively assessed the extension of the deadline: “it is excellent news, as it will allow homes and premises to carry out their works with greater peace of mind.”
Since the signing of the agreement in November 2022, the City Council has created the ERRP Management Office, organised informative sessions for rehabilitation agents, and directly processed aid applications, with the aim of bringing the administration closer to residents and speeding up the granting of subsidies.
The ERRP programme not only focuses on the rehabilitation of buildings but also includes urban regeneration projects and improvements to public space. Among the planned actions are the conditioning of the pavements in Plaza de San Antonio and the improvement of Calle de San Antonio up to the Palacio de Silvela, as well as the creation of a water park in Plaza de Abastos.
These interventions, according to the City Council, will contribute to modernising urban space, improving accessibility, and advancing the sustainable transformation of the city. The total investment mobilised by the programme, combining public aid and private investment, exceeds €29 million.
For the residents of Aranjuez, the extension of the deadline to 2028 represents an opportunity to plan the works with greater leeway. Interested homeowners' associations can request information at the ERRP Management Office of the City Council, where advice is provided on the requirements and application process for the aid.
The programme, funded by Next Generation EU funds, seeks to promote the energy efficiency of the building stock and encourage sustainable rehabilitation. In Aranjuez, the aid has focused on the Historic Centre, where there is a significant number of old buildings in need of improvements in insulation and accessibility.
Owners who have already received the subsidy can carry out the works until 2028, while those who have not yet applied for aid can do so in upcoming calls, although the City Council has not specified whether there will be new application windows. The ERRP Management Office remains operational to resolve queries and process files.
