A total of 22 companies and entities from the province of Huelva have joined the Andalusian label 'Gusto del Sur', which now has 245 entities and 752 products across Andalusia in less than three years.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Ramón Fernández Pacheco, has announced that there are now 245 entities and 752 products adhering to the Andalusian label 'Gusto del Sur' in less than three years since its creation. Of these, 22 belong to the province of Huelva, which ranks sixth among the eight Andalusian provinces.
Fernández Pacheco highlighted that these products enter the market under the umbrella of this label, which is already well-known and recognised in Spain and Europe thanks to numerous promotional, advertising and training actions, as well as agri-food fairs in which the Junta de Andalucía is present. The aim of the label is to improve the competitiveness of the sector and promote its marketing and internationalisation.
Andalusia is a leading community in food production, with nearly 20% of the sector's industries at the national level and a significant share in the country's agri-food exports. The minister emphasised that the Andalusian brand identifies and values quality food and beverages in all markets, helping consumers to recognise and appreciate them.
By province, Jaén tops the list with 59 entities, followed by Córdoba (37), Granada (31), Sevilla (30), Almería (24), Huelva (22), Málaga (21) and Cádiz (18). Additionally, there are two entities registered from outside Andalusia: one from Alfaro (La Rioja) and another from Gijón (Asturias).
In terms of sector distribution, olive oil is the most represented, with 110 entities, followed by fruits and vegetables (39) and wines and vinegars (36). There are also companies dedicated to table olives, rice, legumes, pasta, preserves, sauces, soups, jams, sweets, honey, pickles, spices, nuts, snacks, eggs, hams, cured meats, fishing, aquaculture and prepared dishes, among others.
Of the total, 103 entities comply with some Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), 5 with Traditional Specialty Guaranteed, 25 with GLOBAL G.A.P., 31 with Protected Geographical Indication, 93 with Organic Production, 25 with Integrated Production and 5 with Wine of the Land. Some entities meet several scopes for their registered products.
For producers in Huelva, this label represents an opportunity to differentiate their products in an increasingly globalised and demanding market. The ministry has reminded that consumers value quality and sustainability, and 'Gusto del Sur' guarantees both aspects. Interested companies can apply for membership through the Junta de Andalucía website.
