The SETT, under the Ministry for Digital Transformation, has allocated €6.4 million to the Canary Islands' Amuse Labs and €3.9 million to Impulse Studio to create a comprehensive film studio in Madrid.
The Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), an entity under the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, has announced a joint investment of €10.3 million in two companies in the audiovisual sector: the Canary Islands' Amuse Labs, specialised in children's animation, and Madrid's Impulse Studio, which will create an independent comprehensive film studio.
The operation, as detailed by the department led by Óscar López, responds to the aim of strengthening the audiovisual value chain in Spain and retaining the intellectual property of works produced in the country.
Amuse Labs: a commitment to animation with parity and renewable energy
The investment in Amuse Labs amounts to €6.4 million, of which the SETT participates in 48% of the capital increase, totalling €13.2 million. The rest comes from private investors, with Amuse Studios as the second major partner.
The company, based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is dedicated to the production and international marketing of children's animation content for television and digital platforms. Its business model includes licensing and merchandising exploitation, in addition to production.
A notable aspect is that the company operates with 100% renewable energy and maintains a workforce with real parity, both in the number of employees and in high-responsibility positions.
On the technological front, Amuse Labs will integrate artificial intelligence tools to streamline 2D and CGI animation processes, as well as localisation and management.
The Government expects this initiative to generate between 40 direct jobs and 150 indirect jobs in the Canary Islands, related to production, distribution, and auxiliary services.
Impulse Studio: a comprehensive film studio in Madrid with international projection
For its part, Impulse Studio will receive €3.9 million to create an independent studio in Madrid that encompasses all phases of audiovisual development: investment, production, infrastructure, and distribution. The total operation sums €8 million between public and private capital.
Led by Roberto Butragueño and Andrés Sánchez, the studio will offer financing, co-production, and distribution, as well as access to image laboratories, sound post-production, digital special effects (VFX), and filming studios. All of this will be available for national and international projects.
Impulse Studio plans to develop between 15 and 20 projects with international aspirations over the next five years. Each production is expected to generate 200 direct and indirect jobs, according to the company's estimates.
In the distribution area, the studio will manage the international sales of its intellectual properties with active presence at key festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, San Sebastián, Toronto, or the American Film Market (AFM).
What this investment means for the Spanish audiovisual sector
The Government's commitment to these two studios aims to strengthen the Spanish audiovisual industry beyond mere production, focusing on retaining intellectual property and creating qualified jobs. For professionals in the sector, it represents an opportunity to access infrastructures and financing that were previously reserved for large international groups.
Those interested in collaborating with Amuse Labs or Impulse Studio can consult their respective websites or contact their production departments directly. The development of the first projects is expected to begin in the coming months, once the establishment of the new companies is completed.
