The Huelva-based chain, headquartered in Lepe, acquires the 19 establishments of the Granada-based firm and becomes the third largest distributor in Andalusia by retail space.

The Huelva supermarket chain Supermercados El Jamón has taken a new step in its expansion plan by purchasing all the establishments of Supermercados Dani, a company originating from Granada with which it shares values of proximity and local roots. The operation, announced this Wednesday, adds 19 new stores to its network and strengthens its presence throughout Andalusia.

A purchase that adds 19 stores and 570 employees

The 19 acquired supermarkets are spread across the Andalusian geography: 14 in the province of Granada, two in Jaén, two in Málaga, and one in Almería. Together, they total 28,300 square meters of retail space. With this acquisition, the company from Lepe reaches nearly 300,000 square meters of sales area and 14,000 square meters dedicated to the wholesale channel.

The 570 workers of Supermercados Dani will retain their jobs, the company has confirmed in a statement. The integration will not begin until next October and will be carried out gradually, at which point the establishments will change their signage to operate under the Supermercados El Jamón brand.

The third largest distributor in Andalusia by retail space

With this purchase, Supermercados El Jamón positions itself as the third largest distribution company in Andalusia by retail space, a milestone that the company attributes to its growth model based on customer proximity, investment, and commitment to the economic development of the region. The chain, headquartered in Lepe (Huelva), thus completes its establishment in all eight Andalusian provinces, following the recent opening of a supermarket in Adra (Almería).

The operation adds to the acquisitions of Grupo Piedra last year and Supermercados Codi in 2024, consolidating a growth strategy through the incorporation of family-owned Andalusian companies. The CEO of Supermercados El Jamón, Mabel Díaz, has emphasized that "this operation represents an excellent opportunity to continue consolidating our position in the province of Granada and continue growing in Andalusia."

An agreement between two family-owned Andalusian companies

The sale was concluded after negotiations that both parties describe as "cordial, fluid, and based on the good rapport and friendship that has always united us," as noted by Mabel Díaz. Both companies are part of the purchasing central IFA, which has facilitated understanding.

"We are particularly excited that the project of a family-owned Andalusian company continues in the hands of another family-owned Andalusian company. We believe that this continuity is good news for the workers, suppliers, customers, and the entire business fabric of our community," stated the owner of Supermercados Dani, Daniel Lozano.

Supermercados El Jamón has emphasized in its statement the importance of preserving the Andalusian character that defines both companies, ensuring that the business legacy of Dani continues. The distribution model will remain based on proximity, trust, and commitment to the economic and social development of Andalusia.

For the residents of the province of Huelva, this news reinforces the image of a local company that continues to grow without losing its identity. The company, founded in Lepe, has become a benchmark in distribution within the autonomous community, generating employment and supporting local suppliers. The integration of the new supermarkets will begin in October, with no changes to the hours or services of the acquired establishments announced so far.
