Residents of eastern A Mariña will be able to benefit from an 80% discount on their electricity bill if they are customers of Máis Enerxía, thanks to an agreement signed with RDG Comercializadora, owner of the Mondigo wind farm.
Máis Enerxía, a retailer based in Vigo, has become the first company to join the discount programme of Recursos de Galicia (RDG). On July 16, it signed an agreement with RDG Comercializadora, a subsidiary of the public-private company, to offer an 80% discount on the electricity bill to residents of eastern A Mariña.
The discount will apply to individuals residing within 1.8 kilometres of the Mondigo wind farm, located in the province of Lugo. Beneficiaries will be able to choose between being customers of Máis Enerxía or RDG Comercializadora itself, as RDG explained in a statement.
The mixed company, whose main shareholder is the Xunta de Galicia, hopes that more retailers will join the plan. "RDG's intention is for other retailers to also join the plan. The forecast is to expand this system and similar ones to other areas of Galicia," the company indicated.
The announcement comes just days after the Galician government reported that Recursos de Galicia will carry out its first capital increase, aiming to more than double it to manage new purchases and extend reduced rates to other areas of the community.
At the same time, on the day of the agreement, the central government began proceedings to disqualify RDG Comercializadora, along with dozens of other companies considered 'ghost' retailers. Emilio Bruquetas, CEO of Recursos de Galicia, assured that the company is preparing technical objections to demonstrate that "the retailer has not been inactive nor is it inactive."
Sources from RDG have emphasised that, in the event of disqualification, the discounts would not be affected because they are funded by RDG Xeración, the generation branch. Additionally, representatives of the company will visit "house by house" in the coming weeks in the municipalities of Ribadeo, Barreiros and Trabada to inform about the status of the 471 applications received.
The approved bonuses accumulate from the moment of their processing, as detailed by the corporation. Residents who have not yet applied for the discount can do so through the channels set up by RDG.
