Ford and Geely secure early retirements in Almussafes ERE with new joint venture

The alliance between Ford and Geely at the Almussafes plant ensures the labour conditions of the ERE signed in 2024, which included compensation of up to €40,000 and exits from age 53.

The creation of the joint venture between Ford and Geely at the Almussafes factory (Valencia) will not alter the labour rights of the workforce. Both companies have confirmed that the agreement on early retirements and incentivised exits reached in July 2024 remains in force and will be fully respected by the new entity.

The employment regulation file (ERE) agreed two years ago with the UGT-Ford union section affected 626 workers. The plan established economic compensation of up to €40,000 gross for those who accepted the exit before July 31, 2024, with decreasing amounts down to €20,000 for those who did so before October 31.

Early retirements were set from age 53 in 2024. Employees aged 53 and 54 receive a supplement to their unemployment benefit of 75% of their salary until they reach 57 years old. For those aged 55 or 56, this percentage rises to 80%. From age 57, the supplement increases to 80% for those who left at 53-54 years, and to 85% for those who left at 55-56 years.

The agreed contribution period reaches 62 years for early retirements at 53, and extends to 63, 64, and 65 years for exits at 54, 55, and 56 years, respectively. Those who left at 57 years or older receive 85% of their salary until they turn 65.

The entry of Geely into Ford Almussafes maintains the 'no change' regime in labour and seniority conditions, according to both companies.

The new joint venture, which plans to produce up to five vehicle models from 2028 —including Ford models and Geely electric SUVs— guarantees the stability of the current workforce. Workers retain their seniority, category, and the conditions set out in the collective agreement in full.

Meanwhile, the Government approved an extension of the RED mechanism for the Almussafes plant until December 31, 2026. This measure protects more than 4,100 employees on a rotating basis, in a context of productive adjustment while preparing for the transition to the new joint manufacturing platform.
