BYD unveiled the Denza Z Coupé at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an electric hypercar with 1,604 hp that accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.25 seconds and charges from 10% to 70% in five minutes.

The Chinese manufacturer BYD made a significant impact at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by presenting the Denza Z Coupé, an electric hypercar that promises to challenge the European automotive giants. With an official power output of 1,604 hp and a maximum torque of 1,240 Nm, this vehicle becomes one of the most powerful production electric cars ever launched by a Chinese brand.

The presentation was led by Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD, accompanied by former Formula 1 driver and 2009 world champion, Jenson Button. Denza, the group's premium brand, does not hide its ambitions: to compete directly with Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, Aston Martin, or even Ferrari in the realm of extreme performance.

Heart-Stopping Power and Performance

The Denza Z Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.25 seconds, while the Racing version reduces that time to an astonishing 1.96 seconds with optional semi-slick tyres. The top speed is 300 km/h, although the Racing variant can reach 350 km/h once unlocked.

This electric beast uses the e³ platform, which integrates three motors: one front and two independent rear motors. Despite weighing over 2.2 tonnes, its acceleration figures place it among the most exclusive hypercars in the world. Denza has confirmed that the model will be offered in three main variants: Coupé, Spider (convertible), and Racing, along with a future Special Edition developed with the Nürburgring circuit as a reference.

Ultra-Fast Charging Battery and Cutting-Edge Technology

One of the major attractions of the Denza Z is its battery system. It features the new second-generation Blade Battery, structurally integrated into the carbon fibre chassis. With a capacity of 76 kWh and an electrical architecture of 1,000 volts, it is compatible with BYD Flash Charging technology, allowing it to charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes. These figures place it among the most advanced in the industry.

The homologated range reaches 410 kilometres in the Coupé, 400 km in the Spider, and 380 km in the Racing, due to aerodynamic differences between versions. Additionally, it features the intelligent DiSus-M suspension, which individually controls the damping of each wheel through an electronically managed magnetic system, and the Tyre Burst Control System, designed to maintain stability in the event of a blowout at high speed.

Design by Wolfgang Egger and Luxury Inside

The design of the Denza Z is by Wolfgang Egger, head of design for Denza, Fangchengbao, and Yangwang, with a resume that includes stints at Audi, Lamborghini, and Alfa Romeo. His influence is evident in the aggressive proportions and visual presence of the coupé. Despite its radical focus, Denza has not neglected interior comfort. The cabin combines carbon fibre finishes, suede-like surfaces, and metallic elements, along with an 8.88-inch digital display and a 12.8-inch multimedia screen with integrated Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store.

The Devialet sound system offers up to 12 speakers in the Coupé and Racing versions, while the Spider includes 10. It also features specific modes for track use, launch control, drift mode, and advanced torque distribution settings. For the automotive enthusiast seeking the latest in electric performance, the Denza Z Coupé represents a real alternative to European sports cars, with the added benefit of ultra-fast charging that minimizes waiting times. Its arrival in the European market is expected in 2026, although official prices have yet to be confirmed.
