Businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego challenged the suspended governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, to an interview on TV Azteca to clarify his version regarding the death of Héctor Melesio Cuén and the capture of 'El Mayo' Zambada.

Businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego has publicly challenged the suspended governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, to grant an interview on TV Azteca and clarify the accusations against him. The proposal, made through the social network X, seeks to have Rocha Moya provide his version on two controversial matters: the death of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda during the arrest of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada and the alleged setup orchestrated by Enrique Inzunza from the Sinaloa Prosecutor's Office.

A challenge on social media

Salinas Pliego's response came after Rocha Moya reappeared on social media following more than a month of public inactivity. In his message, the suspended governor denied being protected by federal agents, as had been speculated. The businessman, known for his direct style, seized the opportunity and challenged him to face the public.

“Hey, please give us Mexicans your opinion on Cuén's death during the arrest of 'El Mayo' and on the setup that Inzunza orchestrated from the Sinaloa State Prosecutor's Office,” Salinas Pliego wrote on his X account. He also offered the microphones of TV Azteca, a network he owns, so that Rocha Moya could speak without filters.

Irony about the governor's location

In his message, Rocha Moya claimed that he remains at his home in Culiacán, without moving. However, Salinas Pliego mocked this assertion and asked him to reveal his actual location. The businessman questioned whether he is in the Badiraguato mountains and if it is possible to reach him by road or only by plane, in a clear reference to rumours that the governor might be hiding and receiving protection from criminal groups.

This exchange occurs in a context of high political tension in Sinaloa, where the arrest of 'El Mayo' Zambada and the death of Cuén Ojeda have raised multiple questions. Rocha Moya, who requested a leave of absence from his position, has not provided public explanations regarding his role in these events.

What lies behind the challenge?

For readers interested in Mexican politics, this challenge is not just a media duel. Salinas Pliego, owner of Grupo Salinas and TV Azteca, has a history of confrontations with politicians, and his interview offer could be an attempt to pressure Rocha Moya to break his silence. If the interview takes place, it would be a high-impact event, but so far there has been no response from the governor.

Meanwhile, the public continues to await answers regarding the events that have shaped the national agenda. Salinas Pliego's challenge, although controversial, highlights the need for transparency in a case involving high-ranking officials and organised crime. It remains to be seen whether Rocha Moya will accept the microphone or prefer to remain in the shadows.
