The investment fund A.GAIN, linked to the ownership of Atlético de Madrid, becomes the new majority owner of Real Zaragoza following the exit of Real Z LLC. The operation includes a capital increase of €22 million.
The American fund A.GAIN has taken control of Real Zaragoza, replacing the previous owner Real Z LLC in a deal that closes just weeks after the club's relegation to Primera RFEF. The new investment platform initially acquires 75% of the capital previously controlled by the American vehicle, as reported by the club this Thursday.
However, the sale does not signify a complete break with the previous investment ecosystem. A.GAIN retains a minority stake in Atlético de Madrid, which has reignited the debate among Zaragoza fans about the continued influence of Miguel Ángel Gil Marín in the Aragonese entity.
Who is behind A.GAIN?
The CEO and co-founder of A.GAIN, Bobby Aitkenhead, is the public face of the group. Son of businessman Richard Aitkenhead, founder of IDC Network, the parent company created in 1995, Bobby grew up in Guatemala and attempted to be a basketball player before turning to sports investments.
