The neighbourhood of La Concha, with 3.2% unemployment, and El Cable, with 4.9%, top the Istac ranking. Lanzarote maintains an island-wide rate below 9%.

Two neighbourhoods in Arrecife are at the forefront of employment in the Canary Islands. According to data from the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (Istac) for the second quarter of 2026, La Concha records the lowest unemployment rate in the Archipelago, at 3.2%, followed by El Cable at 4.9%. Both lead a ranking that also includes areas of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arona, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The report, prepared in collaboration with the Canary Islands Employment Service, allows for the first time a detailed analysis at the neighbourhood level in Arrecife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Arona. The data reveal stark contrasts: while in La Concha and El Cable unemployment is minimal, in other areas such as Cuesta Piedra, Barrio Nuevo, San Pío X, Jinámar, or El Lasso the rate exceeds 27%.

At the municipal level, Yaiza is the municipality with the lowest unemployment in the Canary Islands, at 5.8%. It is followed by Teguise (6.8%), Tías (7%), and Tinajo (7.3%). All of them belong to Lanzarote, which, along with Fuerteventura, presents an island-wide rate below 9%, positioning them as the islands with the best labour indicators in the Archipelago.

Employment growth also benefits Lanzarote. In the last year, the number of employed increased by 4.2% on the island, only surpassed by Fuerteventura (4.4%) and above the regional average (3.6%). Furthermore, registered unemployment decreased by 6.1% across the Canary Islands, with improvements in all islands except El Hierro, where the figures remained virtually stable.

Istac highlights that this data corresponds to the Registered Active Population Statistics, which offers an unprecedented level of sub-municipal detail. For the residents of La Concha and El Cable, the figures represent a boost to the economic dynamics of the area, driven by the services sector and tourism. However, the report also underscores the persistent inequalities within the capital itself.

The Arrecife City Council has positively assessed the data, although they insist on the need to continue working to reduce unemployment in the neighbourhoods with the worst indicators. Istac plans to update this data next quarter, which will allow for an assessment of employment evolution on the island.
