The Ministry of Economy of the Canary Islands has launched a grant line of €600,000 to subsidise the interest rate of loans aimed at investments by self-employed workers. The application deadline ends on 30 October 2026.
Canarian self-employed workers can now apply for new aid to reduce the cost of their investment loans. The call, published this Thursday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, has an initial allocation of €600,000 and will be open until 30 October 2026.
The subsidy, managed by the General Directorate of Self-Employed Workers, subsidises the interest rate of loans formalised between 1 January 2026 and the end of the application period. Loans prior to this date are excluded, even if they are still active.
Who can apply for the aid and what requirements must be met
Self-employed individuals registered in the RETA, in any other special self-employed regime of Social Security or mutualists can benefit. The aid is linked to loans that finance investments, not personal or consumer loans.
The call is processed on a non-competitive basis: applications do not compete against each other but are resolved in the order they are received until the budget is exhausted. Therefore, it is advisable to submit the application as soon as possible.
How and until when to apply for the subsidy
The application period begins on 10 July 2026, one day after the publication in the BOC, and ends on 30 October 2026. The processing is mandatory online through the electronic headquarters of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, with the procedure identified as procedure 10934.
The extract of the call was signed on 26 June 2026 by the general director of Self-Employed Workers, Mónica Nuez Ramos. The aid is framed within the Order of 17 June 2026, which approved the regulatory bases of these subsidies.
What this interest subsidy means for the self-employed
For a self-employed worker who has taken out a loan to renew machinery, improve their premises, or make any productive investment, this aid represents a direct relief in their financial costs. The subsidy applies to the interest rate, reducing the monthly payment.
The Ministry of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed Workers has reminded that the initial credit of €600,000 could be expanded if demand requires it and there is budget availability. However, as it is a limited line, experts recommend not delaying the application.
In a context where many self-employed workers resort to financing to maintain or boost their business, this line of aid seeks to reduce one of the most common burdens: the cost of money. The subsidy does not cover the entire interest, but provides relief at a time of still high rates.
For any questions, interested parties can consult the regulatory bases in the BOC or visit the information offices of the ministry. The aid does not require intermediaries: it is processed directly by the self-employed through the electronic headquarters.
